Gipsy songs full of passion and emotion, exotic sounds of Bulgaria, Croatia, Belarus and Russia and shows of the stars of the native ethnic scene - these are just a sample of the attractions on offer at the seventh Festival of Traditional Music "Crossroads". The event will begin on 28 July with the Concert with one instrument.

With this new form on the stage of the Krakow "Rotunda", the solo recitals will be presented by virtuosos - of the "txalaparty" (the Basque equivalent of the folk xylophone), zithers, the double bass and the slovak pipe, in other words, the duet of the Ttukunak sisters (Spain / the Basque countries), Vitold Rek(Poland/ Germany). Marco Trochelmann (Germany) and Grzegorz Tomaszewski (Poland).

On Friday 29th July, the party will move to the Barbican area. For a good start it will play "Czeremszyn". Then Sarakina will make her appearance on stage. Hidden behind this mysterious name is a beautiful girl from the Balkans, a village in Greece and a band from Bialystok, playing music about bulgarian roots, and more precisely, an unusually energetic mixture called ethnojazz. The independent Belorussian stage will be occupied by Zmicer Wajciuszkiewicz, popularly known as Todar, a "forbidden" bard in his country, singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer of film music,co-artist of the known projects in Europe - "Narodny Albom" and "Ja naradziusia tut", as well as the founder of the cult groups Krivi, Palac and WZ Orkiestra. He will perform in Krakow with the latter of the mentioned programmes of the repertoire presenting pieces inspired by traditional Belorussian music, compositions to poems of Belorussian poets and a new study of his greatest hits. We will hear him not only in the Barbican, but also during Saturday's concert on the Main Market Square platform, and from Saturday till Sunday night, on the "Rotunda" club stage. Joanna Slowinska, another star of the Polish stage, who lives in Krakow, will also appear in the Barbican and "Rotunda". She is a singer and violinist who sings in the rarely used folk style with a technique known as the "white voice". Her programme is made up of ancient, traditional Polish and Slavonic songs, presented in an archaic and modern way. We will hear the Slovak musicians from the group "Muzicka i Dragoni" twice, and the "Transistria Band" led by Tamara Obrovac. This Croatian singer and poet writes and sings songs in a local dialect formerly used in her area.

An ethnojazz setting for her melorecitation is created by her international group, made up of Croatian, Italian and Slovenian musicians. The star of the Saturday concert at the Market Square will be "Mitsou", originally from Hungary. Blessed with an unusual voice and talent, Monika Juhasz Miczura is registered in the circle of recognised Romani artists.
She performed with the group "Ando Româ" for eight years, after the leader Jeno Zsigo, discovered her as a teenager. However, she quickly began a solo career. She records film music (at Tony Gatlif's in "Gadjo Dilo" and "Swing", as well as with Zoltana Kamondye in the film "Temptations"..).She has, for many years, co worked with the Danish composer Hans - Erik Philip and the French orchestra "Bratch". She also belongs to the Global Vocal Meeting. In Krakow, she will present the recital "Muca Mutsou", where there will be pieces linking elements of Romani culture with influences of the contemporary world. These will be the beloved pieces of the artist's song.

The completion of the open air and indoor concerts will be Bulgarian and Slovakian dance workshops, as well as Belorussian singing lessons. The festival will end with a musical marathon on the "Rotunda" stage, on the night of 30 - 31 July.

28 - 30 July - Festival of Traditional Music "Crossroads 2005", the Main Market Square, the Barbican and "Rotunda" club.
