Visitors by Night

Category: Arts & Artists

By: Katarzyna Fortuna Radio Krakow

With Poland’s accession to the European Union the country experienced a truly european entry. Last year, for the first time ever, Krakow museums opened their doors after opening hours. On the night of the 1st to 2nd May, state and private museum collections were made available to crowds of locals and tourists alike. The number of visitors was greater than usual.

This helped generate even more interest in this most unusual of feasts.

The same nocturnal experience will take place this year – on the night of the 20th to 21st May. A vast number of museums will participate: almost every branch of The National Museum, The History of Photography Museum, The General Emil Fieldorf “Nil” Home Army Museum, The Modern Art Gallery (“The Art. Bunker”), The History of Krakow Museum and its branch in Nowa Huta, The Stanisław Wyspiański Theatre Museum, The Archdiocesan Museum and even the Stara Synagoga (Old Synagogue). Each of the above institutions has ironed out every single detail in order to satisfy the nocturnal visitor.

Apart from the everyday permanent and temporary exhibitions which anyone can see, locals and visitors will be treated to a number of surprises specially planned for the 2nd Night of Museums. There will be music on offer, visitors will be invited to participate in performances, watch films and listen to lectures.

For full details on the 2nd Night of Museums turn to the Calendar of Events.
