Textversion

The conference has been organised by the Institut of Philosophy of Universytet opolski. Prof. Bartlomiej Kozera gives an understanding of the relavant rudiments and problems.

"We want to talk about the problem of identity, the identity in the European Union- Identity is being one's self , these are the values that are accepted by myself. Polands entry to the European Union made appeare next to the national values typicall for Poland other values, so called European values wich are an opportunity for Polish people. The question is in how far the values characteristic for Polish culture can be attractive in Europe, but also the other way round, in wich way can European values shape the identity of each and every citizen."

Volker Caysa, German philospher talks about the memory and the cultural identity.

He poses a question if in Polish-german relations apart simply letting certain facts fall into oblivion the forgiveness is also possible:

"The subject of my lecture concerns the policy of memory and the formation of European cultural identity. My lecture's thesis is the idea that our nations' cultures can both unite or divide us. To develop cultures need memory along with fogetting. To be able to unite I ask the question if we should just remember or learn to forget too."

The conference end today. From Murow Tomasz Bazan, Radio Opole.
