THE LANDS OF THE AEGEAN AND THE BLACK SEA:FROM THE ARGONAUT EXPEDITION TO BLACK SEA CO-OPERATION
International scientific meeting
The Volos Municipal Center for Historical Research and Documentation (DIKI), together with the 13th Ephorate of Prehistoric & Classical Antiquities and the Department of History, Archaeology & Social Anthropology of the University of Thessaly, has organised an international scientific meeting under the title "The Lands of the Aegean and the Black Sea: From the Argonaut Expedition to Black Sea Co-operation".
This meeting will take place in Volos, 2004 Olympic City, from 21 to 24 October 2004. The sessions will be held in the "G. Kordatos" amphitheatre of the University's "Papastratos" complex, on the waterfront, and the official languages of the meeting will be English, French and Greek.
The object of the meeting is scientific documentation of the relations down the ages of the inhabitants of the Aegean region with the lands surrounding the Black Sea. Discussion topics include: Institutions, economic relations, social organisation, acculturation and cultural identity, relations with co-habitant populations and local political authorities, and relations with the rest of the Hellenic world. A parallel meeting will be devoted to the possibilities of organising future collaborations in the cultural and economic fields.
